Kung Fu Hustle: Heh, heh, okaaaaay

Kung Fu Hustle is weird. You know, those craaazy Buddhists know how to make a confusing and strange movie. We had heard this movie was 'hilarious'--comedic genius. Well, okay. So it's funny. Kind of. Sometimes it makes you laugh out loud, but other times it's seriously dark. With no hint of humor.

"Oh look, all those people just got murdered!"

Not exactly funny ha ha.

However, the special effects are silky smooth, and the fight scenes are pure martial art magic. Though at times I wanted to turn off the VCR and watch random Friday night TV (To Catch a Predator, anyone?), other times I was completely engrossed. I think Tim laughed more than I did, but both of our mouths dropped open at how cool some of the scenes were.

When we turned it off, we looked at each other and agreed, "That was weird." But we liked it. Pretty much. It's definitely worth a rental, if not only to gawk at the cool fight scenes. And to laugh at an angry landlady who wears curlers and a nightgown all the time...
